| Title | Letter from Browne Willis, Whaddon Hall near Fenny Stratford, [Buckinghamshire], to Martin Folkes, Queen's Square, Ormond Street, London |
| Creator | Willis; Browne (1682 - 1760); British antiquary and politician |
| Recipient | Folkes; Martin (1690 - 1754); antiquary and natural philosopher |
| Date | 27 September 1742 |
| Description | Willis has rheumatism in his right hand and it pains him to write. Writes regarding his Elizabethan coins, some but not all now gone to Oxford. He still has a portion which he could show to Folkes when next in Lndon including the sixpence with 'Christo Auspice regno' which he notes has no mint mark as with Dr Mead's one. Discusses some further sixpences including two that Cliford[?] will leave at the Plough on Cary street for Willis to examine and Willis 'portcullice' ones. Hopes Folkes might meet with him in Oxford or to see the Duke of Bridgewater's coin collection at Ashridge. pages 3 and four contain list of mint marks of Elizabethan groats and sixpences.
Page 2, address page, contains some mathematical calculations. |
