| Title | Letter from John Bacon, Codenham, near Ipswich, to [Martin Folkes] |
| Creator | Bacon; John (fl 1740s) |
| Recipient | Folkes; Martin (1690 - 1754); antiquary and natural philosopher |
| Date | 16 August 1740 |
| Description | Expressing his condolences for the sad accident in Folkes's family [the death of his son, Martin Folkes]. On seeing the account in one newspaper, he hoped it was a mistake, but it had since been confirmed in other papers. He sends consolation 'for the loss of so amiable a young Gentleman' and sends thoughts on the fragility of human life, noting that Folkes has left 'two, as agreeable, as deserving, as virtuous young Ladies'. |
