TitleLetter from Philips Glover FRS, Wispinton [Wispington] near Horncastle, Lincolnshire, to Martin Folkes, Queens Square, Bloomsbury, London
CreatorGlover; Philips (1697-1745)
Date14 May 1737
DescriptionGlover thanks Folkes for his letter. He reports that things between himself and young Mr Richardson are still the same reagrding Richardson's mistake [about a disputed passage of text in a Greek manuscipt of the Gospel of John in the Vatican now known as Papyrus 75, see MS/790/64]. He states that if Folkes previously advised through a third party that Richardson drop the matter it was not Glover, who did not know young Richardson. He has however known Richardson's father for many years and irrespective of his 'innocent peculiarites' (which everyone has) old Mr Richardson is a respected and able friend whom Glover is obliged to. He fears the matter will cause old Mr Richardson uneasiness and is sorry for it. He thanks Folkes for his assistance in the affair and praises his qualities as a friend. He hopes that Richardson will show Folkes the letter Glover wrote him.
