| Title | Letter from Henry Herbert 9th Earl of Pembroke FRS, to Martin Folkes |
| Creator | Herbert; Henry (1693 - 1750); 9th Earl of Pembroke and 6th Earl of Montgomery |
| Recipient | Folkes; Martin (1690 - 1754); antiquary and natural philosopher |
| Date | 5 February 1741 |
| Description | Pembroke confirms that he has carried out Folkes commands in order to secure a position for Mr Bradley [likely referring to the position of Astronomer Royal which James Bradley FRS assumed in 1742]. He is aware that Folkes considers Bradley the only person suitable to carry out the role for the public good. Pembroke has contacted those with influence on the matter including the Duke of Newcastle, D Grafton and Lord Hay[?]. He has also heard from the Duke of Newcastle that the Chancellor [Robert Walpole] speaks in favour of Bradley. He asks for Folkes company on Sunday and requests that he bring the 'modull' [model] of Stonehenge. |
