TitleLetter, Edward James Wayland, P.O. Box 9, Entebbe, Uganda, to Percy George Hamnall Boswell
Date11 June 1935
DescriptionHe has decided tht if he can possibly get the D.Sc., he will do so, since high degreees 'cut a lot of ice with the Colonial Office'. He has been trying to get the Human Trypanosomiasis Institute building for the Geological Survey, but Teale has let him down and has prostituted the science, by allowing his survey to be placed under the Land Survey Department. There is no longer a Director of Geological Survey in T.T. Teale himself has taken the unnecessary job of Mining Advisor, making £200 more by doing so and going to England every year. Others want to follow T.T. in the matter and do not wish to see Wayland entrenched in H.T.I. and have hatched a plot to keep him out. The Geological Survey will not change while Wayland is there for the next three years, at which time he could retire from Uganda or Gort could ask him to go. He describes a victory for his compression hypothesis of the Rift Valley, with Bullard of Cambridge doing the work. Gives news of colleagues and their research.
