Title | Letter from Sophia Iselin, 1 Sandford Place, Cheltenham, to Chas [Charles] Hatchett, Chelsea, London |
Creator | Iselin; Sophia (fl.1820s-1840s); British poet |
Recipient | Hatchett; Charles (1765-1847); British chemist |
Date | 25 May 1836 |
Description | Giving thanks for Hatchett's kind remembrance and does not doubt that her friend Mr Norton would have complied with her wishes concerning the package. On reading it, she considers it more interesting than any mere 'botanical essay', taking her imagination to historical and courtly scenes. She refers to the simple tale of the penitent associated with the spikenard of the ancients. Their neighbours Mr and Mrs Godall are known to Hatchett, she has learned, and are now off to Devonshire. She enquires after the health of Mrs Hatchett. She describes Mrs Nettleship; and the 'little charge' which Sophia is responsible for, agreeing with her mother in terms of education. She concludes by saying she will be in the neighbourhood of London in a few months. |
