Title | Letter from Thom [Thomas] Murdoch, 8 Portland Place, to Charles Hatchett, Bellevue House, Chelsea |
Creator | Murdoch; Thomas (1758-1846); British merchant |
Recipient | Hatchett; Charles (1765-1847); British chemist |
Date | 14 June 1836 |
Description | He has been dilatory in thanking Hatchett for his publication 'On the spikenard of the ancients' as he had a severe indisposition when he received it. He has now read the work twice and notes its pleasure and instruction. The fragrant plant is often mentioned by the ancients. One of the most beautiful poems in English was written about a lock of hair from a Lady's ringlet, and now one of the most interesting essays is on a fragrant grass of India. |
