| Description | Rawlings cannot find anything more useful to do, therefore he is spending time on clocks and isochronous oscillations. He thinks that the 400 day clock took a wrong turning. He discusses its merits but believes that it has become 'a gaudy ornament'. Rawlings confesses to being very ignorant about the behaviour of torsion filaments and poses several questions about their properties. Atkinsons's mind is full of rifle practice and he has no time for clocks but since Rawlings now has a small car, he proposes they should visit Boys one weekend. Atkinson is too busy, but Rawlings will bring someone else if Boys has a friend that he would like to see and if his domestic arrangements would bear it.
