| Description | Having finished his work of the gravitational constant, Braun was fatigued and took a second cure. He is now in a position to continue his research, but has had difficulties in sourcing good quartz fibres. An order to the Cambridge Instrument Company arrived broken and a second one returned coarse fibres, of which only one sufficed. Braun solicits the help of Boys to approach the company for better quality fine quartz fibres. He compares his spheres of mercury-filled iron with the perfection of the lead spheres employed by Boys. With other comments on improvements to his equipment, Braun thinks he will not be ready to begin before the mid-summer of 1899. |
