Title | Letter from George Gabriel Stokes, Lensfield Cottage, Cambridge, to Charles Vernon Boys |
Date | 12 November 1890 |
Description | Describes his more recent thinking on the banded spectra that Boys has seen in observing the quartz fibres. He has calculated the proportion of the intensity for lights polarised parallel with, and perpendicular to, the fibres for each of the two kinds of spectra and gives the results, with an extended explanation. He has never worked with a silvering solution, but cannot see any reason why this might not be used as a coating for the quartz fibres. He has not gone on to the experiment with the double image prism. |
