| Description | Guillaume was pleased to hear that the thermometers have reached Boys in good condition. Those who use them should find them good, precision instruments. He hopes that the fourth instrument will be completed sometime in January and he will send it at the first opportunity. Discusses anomalies in such thermometers. He has been pleased by Boys's memoir on the gravitational constant and proposes to abstract it for the 'Revue generale...' Comments upon Boys's observation on the spontaneous curvature of a mirror in hydrogen, which is analogous to his own discovery of like curvature in a thin cathode of gold or other metals, when stored in hydrogen. Fromme's experiences have been published in a series of memoirs published in Wiedemann's from 1886. Guillaume states that he does not quite understand why Boys has adopted a definitive result quite different from the gross average of all of his observations. |
