Title | Letter from Francis Fox, Alyn Bank, Wimbledon, S.W.20, to Charles Vernon Boys |
Creator | Fox; Sir Francis (1844-1927); British civil engineer |
Recipient | Boys; Sir Charles Vernon (1855-1944); British physicist and inventor |
Date | 9 September 1926 |
Description | Fox hopes that he has not been forgotten by Boys - he is now 83 years old and has been seriously ill. He is lame with arthritis in the hip and cannot visit Boys. Some years ago Boys gave him an interesting paper on quartz fibres which Fox has often used. He asks if work has been done on the strength of spider webs and a comparison between cobwebs and steel wire would be interesting. Horace Darwin could measure to one millionth of an inch but he thinks this would not be fine enough. Asks if Boys has read his book 'Sixty three years of engineering'. |
