DescriptionConsisting of correspondence from the Society that was sent to Smart at various places during the voyage to Halley Bay at the end of 1956. Mainly letters from D C [David Christie] Martin to Smart, but also contains a copy of a letter from Smart to Martin from South Georgia on 18 December, providing an update on the expedition's progress. Other topics include late additions to the supplies for Halley Bay, particularly books and an official Royal Society stamp for correspondence, which were not ready at time of departue and had to be sent along separately. Also present are covering letters that reference other items not present here, such as post for expedition members.
