TitleLetter from Henry James, Ordnance Survey Office, Southampton, to Edward Kater
CreatorJames; Henry (1803-1877); British surveyor
Date21 June 1859
DescriptionJames has received the report of 1855-6 and gives thanks for the copy miniature of Kater's father [Henry Kater], This is placed in the library, with busts and portraits of those important to the Survey. If Kater comes across a likeness of Colonel [William] Roy, James would like to have a copy. He is glad that Kater was able to report favourably on the importance of photography to their work. They feel the value of it and could not make the required reductions in reasonable time without it. He hopes that Kater will visit, if he comes their way again.
