Description | Land tenancy log. For each estate the quantity of land (in acres roods and perches) and rents or tythes (in pounds and shillings) are itemised for each tenant (homestead, meadow, arable land etc), usually with a narrative history of agreements with the tenant. Some are followed by a summary of out going expenses such as land tax and fee rent to the Crown.. At the end of each area log there follows: For Kilvington a list of the amount of land held by each tenant and rents collected. For Barmby a list of the 'crofts and little closes adjoining to the homsteads' with rents collected and an explanation of the tythes to which Taylor White is entitled in the area including on wool and the lands called Bisop's Meadow. A list of individuals alloted land on the Barmby Bishop soil with rental payments, and a note that tythes on this land are due to the Bishop of Durham. For Aslaby a list of enclosed land holders and rents on arable and meadow land for each, a list of crofters and those renting 'little closes about the town' with rental amounts. A list of individuals alloted land on the Aslaby Bishop soil with rental amounts. Total of Barmby and Aslaby collected rents.
No dates are given against payments but the volume is headed 1788 in the title on the fly leaf.
An estate plan on parchment, showing the estate of South Kilvington in the East Riding of the County of York, is attached, folded, to one of the endleaves. Each parcel of land is named on the plan. |
