TitleLetter from J N [Joseph Norman] Lockyer, Solar Physics Observatory, South Kensington, London, to [Thomas] Preston
CreatorLockyer; Sir Joseph Norman (1836-1920); British astronomer and journal editor
RecipientPreston; Thomas (1860-1900); Irish physicist
Date9 October [1899]
DescriptionLockyer is sorry to hear that Preston is still in bed. He is obliged for Preston's letter which he is setting up for 'Nature' and he explains how he proposes to give Preston's plate, with the description. Lockyer's work is only concerned with the variation of lines, and much of what Preston has crossed out may stand, after Lockyer has stated that Preston was first to state the facts. He will send a revision. He wonders why the R.D.S. [Royal Dublin Society] does not send the Transactions to 'Nature' and elsewhere; he has seen Preston's paper for the first time and he has seen no reference to it in any part of the literature.
