 Career:
 Studied lead poisoning within water supplies for the Local Government Board (1893); began working for London County Council (1898); employed as a bacterioologist with the Royal Commission on Sewage Disposal (1899); became Director of Water Examinations to the Metrpolitan Water Board (1905); studied effects of water supply on specific plants and milk production as well as establishing links between typhoid and water supply; worked on the Belfast Health Inquiry and established safe water suppy for Cairo, Egypt (1907); in collaboration with Sir Alexander Binnie visited Ottawa, Canada, to report of the water supply there (1913).
