OtherInfoResearched roles of monoamines as brain neurotransmitters.
Demonstrated that it is possible to estimate the amount of cortical hormone in adrenal venous blood, and discovered the effect of adrenaline and of various other factors on the output of this hormone.
Documented the presence of greatly varying concentrations of the catecholamine molecule, noradrenaline, in different regions of the brain.
Contributed to our knowledge of the nervous control of the pituitary gland, of hypertension of renal origin, of the distribution of drugs, and later of choline acetylase, in the central nervous system, of neuromuscular transmission in voluntary muscle, of the release of potassium in a sympathetic ganglion, and of methods of estimating adrenaline in blood.
The ninth woman to become a Fellow of the Royal Society.
