His wife, Lady Anne Conway, was a philosopher and also acquainted with these circles. Her work 'Principia Philosophiae' was often misattributed to her husband. In 1683, he resigned from his post as Secretary of State for the Northern Department due to allegations of involvement in 'crimes and misdemeanours' relating to ambassadors abroad. |
