OtherInfoConway was a patron to Jeremy Taylor who would go on to be bishop of Down and Connor. He was also acquainted with the philosophers Henry More (FRS 1664) and Ralph Cudworth (FRS 1662). His wife, Lady Anne Conway, was a philosopher and also acquainted with these circles. Her work 'Principia Philosophiae' was often misattributed to her husband. In 1683, he resigned from his post as Secretary of State for the Northern Department due to allegations of involvement in 'crimes and misdemeanours' relating to ambassadors abroad.
