OtherInfo	Noted for his work on shell-shock. Owing to his research, the nervous system disease called 'general paralysis of the insane' was in fact a manifestation of syphillis and associated with the presence of the specific spirochaete. He demonstrated the close relation between the nervous system and the sexual organs manifested in dementia praecox, as well as the association of deficient mental condition with degeneration of the thyroid and other endocrine organs. Mott was a council member of the Eugenics Society in 1911. He believed that mental illness was inherited due to “degenerate family lines” that worsened until dying out, though his reference cases and statistics were interrogated by other eugenicists.
