Description | In replying to Welby's letter of 16 December [1886] Stokes, as President of the Royal Society, discusses the expense of a naturalist who accompanied the [solar eclipse] expedition in relation to the sum voted by the Government Grant Committee for the Expedition. Stokes reminds Welby that the Society itself has no power to take anything from the Govenrment Grant, any sum from that source must first be voted by the Government Grant Committee. |
