Title | Copy letter from Arthur William Rucker, to Lord Kelvin [William Thomson], Fellow of the Royal Society |
Date | 24 January 1898 |
Description | Regrets that Kelvin will not advise Mr Murray to comply with the suggestion of the Council. The Council has decided that they could not remit the paper to the Sectional Committee, whose report was drawn up after the references had been submitted.
As Kelvin points out, a mistake was made in the No 381 of the 'Proceedings [of the Royal Society]' in that Mr Murray's paper was officially read at the first meeting of the session but this was not stated in the proceedings, and the paper was included in the last of those published during the vacation. In consequence, the Council are willing to allow the paper to be withdrawn, provided Standing Order 31 (Gens Book p61) is complied with. It would therefore be necessary to ask Mr Murray to send a document giving the reference referred to in Standing Order.
As to Kelvin's suggestion that the paper could be communicated 'de novo' if Harrison wishes it, Harrison says that it is not his position to advise on such matters but that he is, on the whole, inclined not to since he believes the Philosophical Magazine is the best medium for the paper. |
