Title | Copy letter from Arthur William Rucker, to Lord Rayleigh [John William Strutt, Fellow of the Royal Society] |
Date | 18 December 1898 |
Description | Sir D Galton was placed on the [National Physical Laboratory] Committee. Rucker has since had a talk with Spring-Rice and a discussion as to the scheme of organization with the Kew Committee. Sends Rucker a copy of a letter to Spring-Rice which Spring-Rice asked Rucker to write. Also sends a report of what the Kew Committee said. Asks Rayleigh to annotate this with any remarks and send it to [Alfred Bray] Kempe asking him to modify the draft so as to meet the views of the Committee as far as possible. Also encloses Foster's suggestions which had better go to Kempe at the same time. [No enclosures]
Rucker had put down the Institute of Chemistry, and Institute of Engineers, in his draft, somewhat doubtfully, but the Committee replaced them with the Naval Architects.
Thinks it will be best to tell the President that his letter will be laid before the Committee which is dealing with the matter.
Rucker would like to lay the scheme of organization before the next Council Meeting on 19th January. Asks if they could have a meeting of their Committee to consider the amended draft on or about the 12th January.
The Kew Committee thought that it would be useful if the Executive Committee could be appointed provisionally at an early date to arrange with them details as to the transfer at Kew. Provides a rough timetable if they take no steps before the money is voted. |
