Title | Copy letter from Michael Foster and Arthur William Rucker, to M v Pettenkofer |
Date | 6 March 1899 |
Description | Directed by the President and Council of the Royal Society to inform Pettenkofer that the Academie des Sciences of Paris, the Reale Accademia dei Lincei of Rome and the Academie Imperiale des Sciences of St Petersburg have all expressed their approval of the suggestion for the formation of an Assocation between the principal scientific Academies of the world. Also all asked for further information.
The Trustees of the "Elizabeth Thompson Fund" have also written to express their interest in the proposed Association of Academies and seem to think that they might be able to contribute some of the funds at their disposal. The National Academy of Sciences at Washington would be a good body to approach in the event of the United States being invited to join the proposed Association.
Suggest that a draft scheme of suggestions or of points to be considered should be circulated among the Academies and it would be desirable to have a preliminary discussion of the scheme, perhaps at Munich. Discusses arrangements for a first meeting. Are prepared to draw up a rough agenda indicating the quetions which will require discussion if it facilitates matters.
