Description | Under the direction of the Royal Society and Royal Astronomical Society, Expeditions will be sent to Spain, Portugal and Algiers to observe the total solar eclipse on 28 May. Details sites selected for observes and notes leave should be obtained from the French, Spanish and Portuguese Government for the observers and probably some of the crew of a man-of-war to land. It would also be advantageous if instruments and equipment could be landed free of duty and if the local authorities could provide assistance by ensuring there are no hindrances to the observing parties. The President and Council hope Her Majesty's Government will take steps to secure such privileges. |
