TitleCopy letter from Sir Michael Foster, to The Secretary, H M Treasury, Whitehall, S.W.
Date5 July 1901
DescriptionStates that while recognizing the practice hitherto followed by the Treasury in refusing applications from Free Libraries and similar institutions, the Challenger Committee of the Royal Society desire to suggest that this practice might be occasionally departed from in the case of broken sets, and for institutes where there is considerable scientific activity. The Committee has reason to think the Public Museum in Sheffield and the Public Free Library at Bradford are such places.
