| Description | [John] Stanley Gardiner wishes to carry out an investigation, largely biological, of the region lying between South India and Madagascar, and would like some assistance for doing so. His services might be utilized for the purposes of an oceanographic study of the region, which was left out by the Challenger expedition some thirty years ago. The Indian Government, however, does not consider the investigation to be of direct interest to India. Hopes the Admiralty will impress upon them an earnest and favorable consideration.
Adds that the current application is for assistance in carrying out the expedition only, not publishing the report. If the Admiralty thinks the region should be surveyed, little expense would be incurred beyond the ordinary surveying vessel. |
