Title | Copy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Lieutenant Colonel David Bruce, Fellow of the Royal Society, Entebbe, Uganda |
Date | 30 June 1903 |
Description | Bruce's letters to Sir M Foster of 16 and 29 May arrived on Saturday and yesterday respectively. The Society finds a mail goes by German packet today but Sir M Foster has had no time to write himself but has asked Harrison to send Bruce a line to say what the Society are doing and to say he will write a long letter very soon.
Bruce's progress report has been sent off to the printers to be set up at once with the Charts for immediate distribution to the Committee and for publication as soon as the plates can be adequately reproduced. Discusses various lists and a box of files Bruce has sent, and some confusion regarding these.
Regarding the queries in Bruce's letter of 29 May, Harrison cannot answer them all but is making enquiries. Castellani has not been appointed to Uganda and Castellani and Low have not sent in their reports yet but Harrison has written to them today to stir them up.
Regarding Captain Greg, the matter did not come to the Society's attention until it had already happened. The initiative was taken by the Indian Government who proposed Greg should join the Society's Commission on the ground that they thought it desirable that they should have a medical officer with a practical knowledge of the disease. The Indian Government applied to the Foreign Office for sanction to Greg's joining the Commission, and the Foreign Office replied without consulting the Royal Society, that there was no objection. |
