| Description | Apologises for not making his meaning clearer, and clarifies that he meant the £20 per month for Bernacchi to cover his whole time, not so many days a week, and to continue for possibly a year. The subsequent increase to £400 made by the Council was intended to include all the outlay on the magnetic work. The Royal Society understood Glazebrook would employ Bernacchi, Geikie told him the arrangement which was in mind, but that ultimately it would be up to Glazebrook. It was understood Bernacchi would be offered £30 a month for two or three months.
Bernacchi has no ground for complaint in this matter, he suffers from the terrible muddle which left the experts of the expedition without employment. |
