Title | Copy letter from Herbert Rix, to [John William Strutt] Lord Rayleigh, [Royal Society] |
Date | 21 December 1889 |
Description | Rix reports that Arthur William Rücker and Thomas Edward Thorpe met with Mr Collings yesterday as they are disappointed with the appearance of their paper; noting that some of the cuts must be done black on white for the sake of distinctness. After attempts at compromise they concluded the whole should be done again as black on white. They admit their error in sending drawings on too small a scale and not asking to consult with the engraver, as perhaps they should have.
Not only should the cuts be black on white, but on a larger scale, and as they have spent over 1000 pounds on obtaining the results, it should be done in 'the best style'. Collings offers to meet their difficulty by doing all the blocks on the larger scale proposed at the same price as the smaller scale, and Rücker and Thorpe offer to pay half the cost. The total cost will be 19 pounds, seven shillings and six pence for the 31 cuts for the 31 cuts, with Rücker, Thorpe and the Royal Society to pay nine pounds of the total. |
