Description | Geikie asks the recipient to lay before the King the humble request of the President, Council and Fellows of the Royal Society that His Majesty may be pleased to renew the gift of the two gold medals founded by His Majesty King George the Fourth, and continued by His successors. The "Royal Medals" have been awareded annually by the Sovereign for the two most important contributions to the advancement of Natural Knowledge publihsed in His Majesty's dominions; and the long list of distinguished workers in Science, who has been recipients of the Medals. Geikie ventures to express the hope that these gifts will be renewed to signify His continued interest in the advancement of that Natural Knowledge. |
