| Description | White explains that he has written to the Cambridge Engraving Company concerning obtaining an estimate for Professor Harry Govier Seeley's paper; stating that they offer to make a drawing free of charge, but it appears that it would have to be done at the Museum. He has inferred from the tone of Seeley's letter that he dislikes the idea of a new man doing his work, and if the Cambridge firm did the whole job the disadvantage would be that it would take longer, as the work would need to be done by one man.
Under the circumstances, White asks if it would be advisable to authorise Seeley to give some of the more important plates to his own artist, who will provide an estimate to the Royal Society for their acceptance, which is likely to be five guineas a plate. He believes this would secure the best work, satisfy Seeley, and allow them to make arrangements for the remainder of the work.
White also notes that Professor [Victor] Horsley has been applying to Messrs Harrison & Sons for clichés of some of the blocks in his Croonian Lecture, and they have applied to the Society. He asks if this is alright, as he knows nothing about the matter. |
