| Description | The paper by Mr Stromeyer that Dalby communicated at the end of March is now going before the Committee with every prospect of being recommended for publication in 'Proceedings [of the Royal Society]'. There are certain suggestions which have been made for the improvement of the paper. The meaning of the calorimetric fatigue limit might be made clearer, a question has been asked is it the stress at which heat evolution first becomes perceptible in the apparatus. In this connection, Harrison is to ask whether,if the Committee should think it desirable, the author would be prepared to add a curve showing in one case the relation between stress and the rate of heat evolution.
Exception has been taken to the soundness of the argument on pages five and six of the manuscript beginning 'If this heat or energy was due to internal friction' and ending with 'Elastic limits are uncertain to the extent of ten percent or more' and it will be proposed to the Committee that this section be omitted. |
