| Description | Enclosed is the note which came from Foster [not attached]. Rix showed the note to Professor Huxley at the Athanaeum and Huxley thinks that it was only a half invitation and taken with this morning's 'Times' was meant as a broad hint that the family would prefer delegates to go direct to the churchyard [for Sir Richard Owen's funeral]. Professor Huxley is not sure that he can remain in town if the fogs of yesterday and today continue, but will do his best if it is at all prudent, to meet Foster at Waterloo for the 1.40 to Richmond. Rix has telegraphed full details to the Treasurer [John Evans]. |
