| Description | Blackett became a Vice -president of the Association in 1939 and served as its President from 1943 to 1947. During his term as President, Blackett delivered numerous lectures relating to the work of the Association in which he stressed the need for scientists to play a larger role in post-war economic ad political affairs. He also called for closer links between scientists and the organised trade union movement. To this end, he sponsored a resolution at the 1945 TUC that a scientific advisory committee should be established; Blackett was one of the three A. Sc. W. representatives on the first committee, which was formed in 1946.
In addition to the lectures and publications, the papers also include 2 chronological sets of correspondence, 1939-1948 and 1963-1968, and one folder of printed material re the Association. |
