Cuttings include obituary notices of Fellows and other scientists (including, pp.61-63 James Clerk Maxwell). The Royal Society's conversaziones, anniverary and other meetings are reported upon. Other content includes articles on other institutions (pp.37-39, 'Kew Gardens'), court reporting, and accounts of various scientific topics (including p.69 & p.73, 'Artificial Diamonds'). Letters to the editors of the various newspapers are also collected.
Generally, the cuttings are attributed to the source newspaper and dated in manuscript. The volume contains several blank pages. A paper label on the cover is inscribed: 'Royal Society. Biographical, etc., May 1877 to Dec. 10. 1880'. The 'Etc.' has been underlined in blue pencil to emphasise the general nature of the content. |
