Bright-cross micrometer on micro-spectroscope in action, Bright-cross micrometer on star spectroscope in action. The micro-spectroscopes exhibiting various absorption spectra, some with spectra of chlorophyll from the Japan honeysuckle as prepared by the Rev. J. B. [Joseph Bancroft] Reade. Spectrum of pure gold from Queensland shown in a large spectroscope. New spark condenser for use in deflagrating metals under observation with the spectroscope. Improved large electric lamp, in action. Stereograms on glass of a globe of Mars. Water-colour drawing of Jupiter. Exhibited by Mr. J. [John] Browning.
Prism transit instrument constructed by Messrs. Cooke and Sons, York, under the superintendence of Lt. Col. A. Strange, for the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India. Exhibited by Lt. Col. A. [Alexander] Strange, by permission of the Secretary of State for India.
Engraving machine for engraving the numbers on graduated circles, and on scientific apparatus generally. Constructed and exhibited by Mr. Thomas Cushing, Assistant to the Inspector of Scientific Instruments, India Department.
Drill pantagraph, invented by Mr. Francis Galton, for reducing tracings made by meteorological self-recording instruments, vertically and horizontally in different proportions. Exhibited by the Meteorological Committee of the Board of Trade.
Products from opium, and some of their products of decomposition. Exhibited by Messrs. Macfarlan and Company, of Edinburgh.
Deep-sea corals from the dredging cruise of the Porcupine, described by Prof. Duncan: exhibited by Dr. [William Benjamin] Carpenter, Prof. [Charles] Wyville Thomson and Mr. [John] Gwyn Jeffreys: and deep-sea coral s from the Gulf-stream, off Florida, and from the Mediterranean. Exhibited by Prof. [Peter Martin] Duncan.

Linnaean Meeting Room.

Faure's new nitric-acid battery. Gordon's electric wind dial and self-recording anemometer. The Gassiot cascade exhausted by the mercurial air-pump. Some of the latest forms of vacuum-tubes, made by A. Apps. A new mercurial contact-breaker. An induction coil with the latest improvements giving a spark as long as the bobbin of the coil. A new electrometer for measuring electrical discharges of high tension. Invented, made and exhibited by Mr. Apps.
Chronoscope for recording at one observation, the velocity with which a projectile passes different parts of the bore of a gun. Exhibited by Capt. Andrew Noble.
Sporting shot gun: the barrels of Whitworth metal, 75 times as strong as and more ductile than the best Damascus steel. Exhibited by Sir Joseph Whitworth.
Mean-time astronomical clock, or regulator, in which the hours and minutes are indicated by a single hand. Exhibited by Major-General [John Theophilus] Boileau.

Faure's new patent carbon battery, in action. Modification of Sir W. [William] Thomson's quadrant electrometer. Exhibited by Messrs. Elliott Brothers.
Model of Vavasseur's 7-in. steel gun, with self-acting compressor to control the recoil. Exhibited by Mr. J. [Josiah] Vavasseur.
Microscopes, with 1/8 and 1/12 object-glass, constructed on a new immersion principle. Exhibited by Mr. T. [Thomas] Ross.
Specimens of electro-deposited iron and of the alloy of iron and hydrogenium, prepared by the Chemist of the Royal Mint. Exhibited by Mr. W. C. [William Chandler] Roberts.
Chart and six coloured drawings of Easter Island. Admiralty map of Port Said. lent by the Royal Geographical Society.
Sculpture: cabinet busts in ivory: of the Queen, of the late Prince Consort, of the Prince of Wales, of the Princess of Wales, of the late Duchess of Sutherland, of Lord Palmerston, Lord Brougham, and of Faraday. Exhibited by Mr. M. [Matthew] Noble.

Model of swift channel passenger steam-vessel, and (in Corridor on Ground Floor) working model of the same, showing the wheels and water-ways. Invented and exhibited by Mr. S. J. Mackie, Assoc.C.E.

Specimens of cast steel produced (by fusion of large masses) by the Landore-Siemens Steel Company; and specimens of slags and metal illustrative of the Siemens ore-process. Exhibited by the Company.
Supposed ancient stone mining-implement found deep below a river-bed, Co. Wicklow. Exhibited by Mr. J. H. Lamprey.
