These outlays were in support of the Royal Society's conversaziones, or soirees: the majority of payments took place in the period March to May 1867. The file also contains a general account of expenses for soirees in 1867. The events were still referred to as the 'President's soirees' at this period, with expenses reimbursed to the Royal Society by the sitting President.
