Description | Plate 25, figure 1 showing an apparatus devised by Christie in order to observe the magnetism of rotating iron through adjusting the position of the iron and magnetic needle without the need to make any calculations. Inscribed with publication and plate details. Signed in ink in bottom left, 'S. H. Christie. del.' The bottom right bears a pencil inscription: 'Jas [James] Basire sculpt.' Along the bottom of the illustration is an ink inscription reading 'Belongs to Mr Christie's paper no XVI'. Royal Society stamp verso.
