DescriptionConstruction of this telescope (known as 'Mark 1A') began in October 1952. Mark 1A entered service only a few months before it was involved in tracking the Soviet Sputnik satellite in October 1957. In 1987 it was renamed the 'Lovell Telescope'. Memo includes aerial photograph of proposed site and illustration of telescope.
