TitleReferee's report by Hans Friedrich Gadow, on a paper 'On the evolution of the Proboscidea' by Charles William Andrews
Date23 March 1903
DescriptionSectional Committee: Zoology

Not recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions in its present form. All the 17 figures are necessary. Figures one and four require proper shading. The paper requires thorough revision concerning numerous misprints and various sentences which are not expressed clearly. Suggests the paper be recast and the comparison with Sirenians be omitted, and that the South American genera not be dismissed in only a few words. The paper is 'good enough' for Philosophical Transactions but should not be printed in its present form as it is full of misprints and requires careful revision. Explains that the author has no right to dismiss the South American animals with only a few words, the comparison with the Sirenians should be omitted. The treatments of the Proboscidea proceeding from the recent to older forms is awkward and not always logical. The account on pages 27 to 28 is not clear.
