TitleReferees' reports and correspondence relating to withdrawn scientific papers, originally submitted to the Royal Society for publication
CreatorThe Royal Society
Date1932-
DescriptionContains referee reports and associated correspondence relating to papers that were not published by the Royal Society following the decision of the authors or communicators. Some of the 'B' side (biological sciences) correspondence was kept separately in this sequence as early as 1932, though the referee reports remain in the main sequence of Referee Reports volumes. The material up to 1937 is slight, with clear gaps in the sequence, but by 1938 the 'A' side (physical sciences) records were also kept separately, and after this time the standard referee report forms for withdrawn papers have usually been removed from the main sequence of reports and filed here along with any associated correspondence.

The term "withdrawn" has been used to identify this sequence, though it includes reports for papers withdrawn by their authors, or communicators and papers rejected outright as part of the peer review process.

RR/W is arranged in folders relating to papers for the 'A' side (physical sciences) and 'B' side (biological sciences) for a given year of submission to the Royal Society. Within each folder, items are arranged in relation to the date of receipt of the paper at the Society, with all items relating to a single paper grouped together in chronological order.
