Description | Gold notes with interest and dismay that Housley had published in the 5th Lunar Science Conference volume, the recipes how to deal with insulating dust samples for Auger spectroscopy, although at that conference Housley had told Gold that he had not succeeded in obtaining useable spectra from dust samples. Gold told him then - and others - of the methods they had developed for the purpose. These are the methods now quoted by him in his article, in particular the flat surface and the importance of the angle of incidence. Housley's article implies that he had not obtained any spectra by those means at that time, since he quotes only observations on single grains.
Gold believes Dr Pomeroy remembers some of these conversations at the time, and the fact that they were the only ones showing good spectra on lunar soil samples. |
