TitleLetter from Thomas Gold to Dr George Pimentel, Deputy director, National Science Foundation, 1800 G street, N.W., Washington DC
Date22 September 1978
DescriptionStates that while he, Gold, has campaigned for a retention of the lunar sample investigation program, and feels strongly that further work must be carried out, he wants to say to him and to others at the NSF through him, that he has very severe reservations about the manner in which the program has been handled. NASA has built up an extremely 'cliquish' group of investigators, and fashion, backscratching, and mutual reputation-builiding practices abound. Gold states it will be very difficult to cut through all this, but he hopes that the NSF will try to do so, if much of the responsibility will now be transferred.
