TitleLetter from Thomas Gold to Dr Leslie Orgel, The Salk Institute, La Jolla, California
Date9 February 1979
DescriptionStates that John Kendrew suggested Gold writes to him and asks him to give the enclosed stuff his consideration. Rather than write all the arguments again Gold is enclosing papers and correspondence that explains everything. It is a very major problem, and a better understanding will solve the energy crisis. But at the moment all that has ahappened is that everyone is mad at Gold - except a few who are pleased with the ideas.

Asks him to let him know what he thinks of all this, especially of the problem of finding the micriflora that can convert methane into petroleum. Gold thinks it possible that some kind of process in the ground using gas was the beginning of life, and not anything in atmosphere or ocean.
