TitleLetter from Thomas Gold to Dr Richard A Muller, Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, University of California, Berkeley, California
Date14 February 1979
DescriptionStates he has known for some time Muller's excellent method of measuring 14C from small samples, and has thought of the value of applying it to the atmospheric methane problem. The article in Physics Today has stireed Gold into writing to explain the situation in detail.

Provides his explanation.

Encloses his general discussion of methane outgasisng of the Earth, from which Muller will see that a successful determination of big burps would be important, both for eneregy and for earthquake prediction.

If Muller could be persuaded to take an interest in this matter Gold would be delighted. Perhaps he would like to discuss this with Professor Melvin Calvin or Professor Lemmon or Profesor Otvos on Muller's campus, who are familiar with many aspects of the story.
