TitleLetter from Thomas Gold to Dr R Oremland, US Geological Survey, Menlo Park, California
Date16 February 1979
DescriptionStates that Gordon MacDonald has told him that Oremland has an interesting observation to report from the Mammoth Lakes region. Gold would very much like to hear the details.

Oremland is probably aware of the reports of the great Owens Valley earthquake of 1872; but in case he has not seen all the reports, Gold is enclosing some he found particularly interesting. The strong smell of sulfur is often mentioned in earthquake descriptions from all parts of the world.
