RelatedMaterial | See descriptive catalogue of the Royal Society Conversazione held on 24 June 1971, p10, Exhibit 18, in Council Room, in which the exhibit is described as; 'Professor T Gold, FRS, Center for Radiophysics and Space Research, Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y. U.S.A. Details of the Lunar Surface. Information concerning the deatiled structure of the surface of the Moon cannot readily be returned to Earth either by the US or Soviet lunar investigations. It seemed desirable therefore to provide the Apollo program with a camera specifically designed to capture the fine details of the patterns in rocks and dust that were generated in the course of very long exposure without atmosphere to the circumstances of the solar system. The displays represent magnified stereo colour views of undisturbed areas of lunar surface seen with a resolution of better than 0.1 mm. Fine structures seen by these means have shown unexpected phenomena, such as one related to surface glazing and another to surface electrostatic transportation phenomena. ' |
