TitleLetter from Thomas Gold to S C Roberts, Vice Chancellor of University of Cambridge
Date22/10/1950
DescriptionWriting on behalf of many who wish to sponsor Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru as Chancellor and that very considerably more than the required number of signatures have been secured. Not certain yet whether Nehru will be willing to stand, but an early declaration is expected. Seeing that there is such a substantial body of opinion favouring Nehr, it is regrettable that no person took it upon himself to make this clear at the informal meeting called for such a purpose. Many senior persons are associated with this nomination, and Gold's function is confined to coordinating the efforts which they have made independently. It is hoped that a preliminary list of the names will be published shortly.
