Description | 'Resident Members of the Senate will now be aware that Pandit Nehru has intimated that "he does not wish to enter into any contest", and that in consequence the arrangements for the Election of the Chancellor have been revised and are on the footing that the proceedings may be expected to be formal.
Those primarily responsibe for thre nomination of Pandit Nehru are taking such steps as are open to them to urge that Pandit Nehru's wish should be respected and no votes cast for him. It is thought, therefore, that in all probablility it will be unnecessary for more than a token number of votes to be cast for Lord Tedder.
It is just possible, however, that some non-residents, who might come up, might insist even now on voting for Pandit Nehru. We are bound, therefore, to ask resident Members of the Senate who support Lord Tedder to come to the Senate House at or shortly after 2 p.m. on Friday next; and we suggest that, as a compliment to the new Chancellor, as many as possible should await the declaration of his election at 2.30 p.m.
